Situated in a rather central area shaped by the chaotic interventions of the transition period and the industrial remnants of the past era, the Avanera residential complex aspires to become a landmark in the city of Suceava, distinguished by both its imposing silhouette and its cohesive and orderly design.
The challenge we faced as an architectural practice was to take on an existing project that was abandoned at the beginning of the real estate crisis from 2007-2008, modifying it and bringing it up to date in terms of the quality of living and the architectural image.
The intervention is structured on two orthogonal circulation axes included in the city’s further development plans that will become connecting streets between two important areas and an integral part of a future urban fabric.
The residential complex consists of three similar buildings, each with a semi-basement, ground floor, and 15 stories (S+D+P+15) connected by an intricate two stories basement parking. The ensemble is situated on a sloping terrain with different orientations, allowing visibility and sunlight for all interior spaces. The
buildings are surrounded by small plazas with mineral-surfaced flooring providing access to the residences and the commercial and service spaces on the first two levels.
The proposed apartments are filled with natural light, featuring large windows, terraces and balconies that offer spectacular panoramic views of the city. Our main focus was on carefully detailing all the common interior spaces like access areas and hallways and exterior landscaping like green areas with alleys, promenades and playgrounds.
The lack of parking in the initial project has been addressed by ‘inserting’ a large underground parking area beneath the buildings, topped with a park featuring alleys, play areas, and social spaces.
