FUNKEY
Emerging from a hands-on, experimental, and DIY-driven approach to design, funKey explores how a simple everyday object can be rethought through clarity of use and minimal mechanical logic.
funKey is a compact key organizer designed to simplify both storage and access. Instead of the usual accumulation of loose keys, it brings them together into a single, controlled assembly, where each key can be individually identified and deployed with ease.
The system is based on a stack of flat keys held between two outer plates, secured by a central axis. Each key is paired with a colored tab, allowing quick visual identification. With a simple sliding motion, any key can be extracted using one finger, without interfering with the others. This direct and intuitive mechanism eliminates the need for rotation, unfolding, or searching.
The object accommodates up to eight keys, including larger formats such as dimple keys, maintaining a compact footprint regardless of configuration. Its logic remains consistent across different setups, whether using the standard four-key version or extended kits.
Materially, funKey operates between precision and customization. The injection-molded version offers a clean, smooth exterior in monochrome finishes, contrasted by a range of colored tabs. In parallel, the 3D-printed variant allows for a more expressive approach, introducing patterned surfaces and a higher degree of visual variability.
Through its simplicity, funKey reframes a familiar object as a small, precise tool—one that prioritizes legibility, tactility, and ease of use in everyday interaction.
