STR COFFEE TABLE

STR COFFEE TABLE

Category: Product design
Status: Completed

The s.t.r. (steel threaded rod) series starts from a pragmatic need and evolves into an experimental exploration of the latent potential of ordinary construction elements. Emerging from a hands-on, DIY approach, standard threaded rods and off-the-shelf steel brackets typically concealed within structures, are brought to the forefront and reassembled into a visible, expressive system. The result is a family of objects where structure, assembly, and aesthetics become inseparable.

In the coffee table, the system becomes more transparent and more direct. The glass top removes any visual weight, allowing the supporting structure to be fully exposed and read as the primary element of the object.

Here, the balance between lightness and stability is more explicit. The slender rods define a minimal framework, while the joints repeated and layered, generate a subtle structural density. The object reads almost as a diagram: forces, connections, and geometry become immediately legible.

Reduced in scale, the coffee table shifts the focus from function to structure. It is less about supporting a surface and more about revealing how that support is constructed, turning a simple domestic object into a clear expression of the system’s logic.
